The CycleOne Initiative

Time period:

Start Date: November, 2022
End Date: Ongoing

This is an Ongoing Project, hence I dont have as much to show for it as I do for the previous ones. I will keep updating this page whenever I make some progress in this and get the time for it. Until then, feel free to browse!

Background

Our college, SLIET, has some very specific characteristics. It has a huge campus filled with nature and beauty, there are very few motorized vehicles (on account of students not being allowed to use them). This results in a lot of walking and cycling for all the students. In our 4th year, me and my friend Abhishek came up with an idea for a bike sharing system that would help the students in the coming years greatly, provided we manage to execute it properly.

A bike-sharing system was essentially a system that allowed students to unlock a cycle to use for a specific amount of time or from destination to destination, and then keep the cycle back there.

The Problem Statement

Step 1 was to understand the problem. I did that easily, as I was pretty used to coming up with solutions to problems by now and had done projects in every aspect that this project required (except for app development).

Step 2 was to pitch it to professors and deans at my college in hopes to get the project approved, funded and supported. I made a project proposal and Abhishek guided me through the bureaucratic structure of our college.

After approval and funding, the only thing remaining was the execution of the problem statement.

I will attach the project proposal I made along with a project report and budget in the resources tab, kindly jump there to get a good idea of the project requirements.

Important Hurdles

We had to ensure the system was simultaneously cheap, easy to use, and hard to cheat. Proper execution was important because otherwise, the students just wouldn’t use the service as much.
